Alameda Activists & Friends Assemble “NO KINGS Since 1776” Flags for Fourth of July
ALAMEDA, CA — June 14, 2026 — More than 50 Alameda residents came together Sunday at Project Burger (located in the Alameda Theatre & Cineplex) to assemble approximately 3,500 “NO KINGS Since 1776” flags to hand out for the upcoming Fourth of July parade. The event, a collaboration between Indivisible Alameda and All Rise Alameda, brought neighbors together for an afternoon of community, conversation, and collective action. The goal is to make 6,000 flags before the 4th of July.
Singer/songwriter Nika Kura kicked things off with a live performance, setting an upbeat tone for the afternoon. Volunteers of all ages filled the space, working side by side folding and gluing flags onto sticks and talking with neighbors. Beyond the impressive output, organizers noted that new friendships were forged and spirits were high throughout the event. Several events and house parties are being planned to make a total of 6,000 flags. The event inspired one Alamedan to take a 125 flag-making kit home to assemble with her monthly card club.
“It was a great time for everyone,” said Shalom Bruhn. “We assembled more than half the flags we printed, we met our neighbors and made some new friends in the process — that’s exactly what this is about.”
The “NO KINGS Since 1776” flags, which will be distributed at the parade, carry a message rooted in American democratic tradition: the United States was founded as a republic, not a monarchy.
Next Event: Another flag-assembly gathering at The Home of Truth — back cottage, 1300 Grand St, Alameda, on Saturday, June 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All are welcome to join and help reach the 6,000-flag goal.
These community events are organized jointly by Indivisible Alameda and All Rise Alameda.
